Motorcycling & Motorsports in the Grossglockner/Heiligenblut Adventure Region

Horsepower, torque & centrifugal force on the Grossglockner High-Alpine Road

Accelerate, slow down, lean into the turn – your gaze always assessing the road a few hundred metres ahead. For months, you’ve been dreaming of this exhilarating ride on the Grossglockner High-Alpine Road, while the road was still covered in a heavy layer of winter snow. At long last, it’s been declared open for the summer – the sheer endless array of bends once again laid bare and ready for action.

We set out from Heiligenblut in the early morning hours, before the onset of the busy day-trip traffic over the Grossglockner. Our tour includes a stop at the Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Höhe, before we cross over the Hochtor and down the Fuscher Törl to Fusch a.d. Glocknerstrasse – where we find ourselves in the neighbouring county of Salzburg. Between each point, we navigate a seemingly endless series of sharp turns, hairpin bends, steep inclines and ascents – claiming them as our own with a skilful use of horsepower, torque and centrifugal force.
