Step into an adventure on the Alpe-Adria Trail

Established in 2012, the Alpe-Adria Trail is a joint project designed by Austria’s ‘Kärnten Werbung’ advertising body, the Slovenian Tourist Board and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Tourist Board in Italy. A joint project with a big impact. The venture was also supported by each of the three countries’ Alpine Associations, which continue to be responsible for trail maintenance and signposting along the route.

Fact Box: Alpe-Adria Trail

The art of slow travel

Imagine setting out at the foot of the mighty Grossglockner, taking your first steps of your Alpe-Adria Trail journey on the edges of the Pasterze glacier. There is a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation. Walking along the sunny side of the Hohe Tauern National Park, we pass through beautiful landscapes, encounter cultural monuments of traditions past, such as the ancient stock mills in the alpine village of Apriach. Many days later, we find ourselves in Slovenia – walking alongside the emerald green water of the Soca river. At long last, having covered almost 750 km, we reach the Adriatic Coast – immersing ourselves into the cool waves at Duino beach, as a more than well-deserved reward.
