Five villages – one region – countless experiences
It’s like something out of a picture book: the Grossglockner/Heiligenblut Region is a perfect synergy of beauty, nature, adventure, history and cultural traditions. The region encompasses five villages – each of them with its own merits and well worth a visit. There’s something for everyone: culture & history, sports & activities, leisure & relaxation – the choice is yours. Enjoy the full range of possibilities offered by the Hohe Tauern National Park Region in Carinthia – Austria’s sunny district on the south side of the Alps.
It is a view that has become famous around the world: the late-gothic church, rising up proudly against the backdrop of the majestic Grossglockner. For many, this is how they picture Heiligenblut. And yet, reality surpasses even the most perfect image: because beyond this well-known postcard scene is an expansive alpine landscape, whose natural beauty is well worth exploring.
Arrive, switch off and enjoy – this is the ethos of the National Park village of Grosskirchheim. Visitors find themselves surrounded by the breathtaking natural landscape of the National Park – yet with easy access to fascinating places of interest and plenty of activities for all ages.
Mörtschach in the Upper Moell Valley is a small village set against the most stunning natural scenery. To the West, it is flanked by the Schober mountain group, while the foothills of the well-known Sonnblick mountains stretch out to the East. The perfect destination for a wide spectrum of sensational alpine experiences.
Located at the southern gateway to the Hohe Tauern National Park, Winklern was built on a sunny plateau with an altitude range of 900 to 1650 metres. Endless hours of sunshine in all seasons, combined with a unique cultural landscape and numerous places of interest, make Winklern a popular destination for holiday-makers and day-trip visitors alike.
When travelling from the South, Rangersdorf is the first of the five villages that make up the Grossglockner/Heiligenblut Adventure Region. Set against the outstanding scenery of the Hohe Tauern National Park, it offers a multi-faceted programme of sports, outdoor activities, art and culture.
Five villages, countless possibilities, and plenty of space for exploration. What have you set your heart on? Sports activities, walking, art & culture, or the natural beauty of Austria’s highest mountains? Whatever it is you love, you are sure to find it in the Grossglockner/Heiligenblut region.
