Largest protected area of the Alps
With an area of 1,856 km², the Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest protected, contiguous and transnational natural and cultural area in the Alps. The landscape is characterized by ice ages, geological processes and geomorphological features. The regions of the Hohe Tauern National Park have a broad climatic spectrum, from oceanic to continental, and create the basis for biological and ecological diversity.
