Grossglockner High Alpine Road

Austria's highest view along the dream path into the Hohe Tauern National Park - the Grossglockner High Alpine Road

The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is not only a real specialty today, winding its way impressively over green alpine pastures and through rocky high mountain terrain. Franz Wallack had a vision. He held on to the idea of a north-south connection via the Fuscher-Törl until 4,000 men managed to achieve in just 5 years what no one would have thought possible until then. A technical and logistical masterpiece of the time, which produced innovations that have endured to this day.

Curves & viewpoints to the highest peaks

Whether by car, motorhome, motorcycle or bicycle - a trip along the Grossglockner High Alpine Road is always worthwhile. The views of the Hohe Tauern mountains are magnificent and a number of great vantage points invite you to stop and linger. The Kaiser-Franz-Josef-Höhe is the highlight of the road, where you can get within touching distance of the Grossglockner. Not to mention the fantastic hikes, such as the Gamsgrubenweg or the Pasterze glacier trail.
